Ketchup

Whoops...not ketchup. Catch-up! I'm slacking again on the posting. I like to put alot of time into my posts and I've been finding myself getting so busy that I don't post.

PART I

First, and foremost, Happy Valentine's Day to you all! I hope you all spent it with friends and family. In the spirit of the day, I'd like to leave you with a few thoughts...

First, Love Your Body! Not the way you look, or the way you think you look when you are on the Wii, or the way you feel but your body and yourself. This is a difficult thing for me and sure for lots of you but if we don't love our bodies then we won't be able to succeed and achieve our healthy living goals. When we overeat and undermove, we sabotage all the good work that we do actually do. If we love ourselves, we should do all the good things for our bodies that we can.

Second, Is Your Heart In This Challenge? Just to make sure that I give credit where credit is due, this is Lula's saying. She wrote it in her food journal last week and I liked it so much that I stole it. So, is your heart in it? Really in it? Do you want it? How badly do you want? We have already done all the living large that our bodies can handle. Now it's time to be healthy. If your heart is really in it you will not feel deprived or punished. My heart has not totally been in it the last two weeks. I've had too many days over 2000 calories and 1 day at almost 3000 is unacceptable but I've had 4. I'm getting my heart in it. I'm learning to love my body.

PART II

This is an addendum to my Big Week post. That was one of those busy times and I didn't get to say everything I wanted to say and the rest came to me while lying in bed. Lula brought a beautiful "100 Pound"' gift for me from her trip to the casino. Her name is Zoe Zen - she's my workout buddy. The cool thing is that she was made in Kennesaw,GA which is one town over from where we lived in Georgia. I also want to say a great big "Thank You" to everyone because I could never have gotten as far as I have without all of you. The support of my family and friends has been immeasurable in my success. The knowledge that all of your eyes are watching me when I slip up has kept me good, too. If the fear of public failure isn't enough to motivate you, I don't know what is?! :-)

Part III
We got a Wii and a WiiFit last week. Everyone in this house, and everyone who visits is hooked! We plugged it in last Saturday at noon and I think it was on non-stop until at least 10 pm. Aunt Ann played, Jonathan and Joshua played, Jason played, (wow, we have a LOT of J names in this family) and even Dad has gotten on and played. The first day we played, Joshua challenged us to a WiiSports boxing match and before it started he said, "Get ready to be beaten by a child!" And guess what, we were ALL beaten by that child. If that wasn't enough of a shocker, we did the WiiFit and WiiSports fitness tests - I was 44 and 80 respectively the first time. It really was on eye opener as to how out of shape I am. It's not as though I was totally ignorant to what conditioin my body is in but this really shed some light on it.

One of the main criticisms of the WiiFit is that it gives a false sense of fitness. I started using it knowing that I would use it in conjunction with my diet and the treadmill, even though I have been bad and have not used the treadmill once this week. But when I am done wsorking out with the Wii, I am sweating. The next day, I have muscle groups thaat are sore. This would not happen if it wasn't doing at least something for me. I think that if a more fit individual were to use it, it would feel more like a cool game but for us, at least, it's a workout - just ask anyone who does Super Hula Hoops and Boxing!
Well, I hope you all have a happy and healthy weekend and good luck with those numbers on Monday morning. I think it may be picture day here at the Martin house!
