Who wants a chocolate bar? How about some chips from the vending machine? I do! I do!
If you can be good and serious about your eating when nobody is watching then you are in control.
There is such a strong urge to eat, to eat to excess. We used to be hunter/gatherers, in fact, for a longer period of our evolution (if you believe in such things) we relied on food that "grew" naturally.
We weren't built to eat so many refined grains or sugars - think about it - do you think a cave man could get the butter, flour, eggs and milk needed to make a big 'ol loaf of bread?
Of course we've learned as a species how to take advantage of every edible (and some not quite so edible, blowfish anyone?) plant and create on the planet. We've crushed it and stomped it and let it ferment. We've cut it and sliced it and roasted it on a spit. We've cracked open the shell and sucked down the goo. Believe me, we love to eat. We used to not get to eat too often and there were other things to worry about like getting eaten by another animal - so we spent a lot of our days on our feet, running and hunting and searching.
Because we didn't get to eat a lot, most of us typically are very efficient at turning ANY excess calories into fat to store for a rainy day. The reason we get so plump is because well the rainy day doesn't come!
When you eat, your stomach stretches and that releases a chemical that travels to your brain to tell you that you are full - it takes about 10 minutes. It relies on the stretching of the stomach to create the signal. If you eat until you are overfull every night - you make that process not work!
