Tonight, Chris and I talked about what we expect to happen, weight loss wise, when we come up for Thanksgiving next week. We decided that it would be a good week if we stayed flat and didn't gain. I said we'd be fine if we went to the grocery store when we got there to get the things we use every day - Kix, spray butter, apples, etc.
This got me thinking about a "Diet Toolbox". Things we MUST have or do to stay on program. I have to have cottage cheese, Kix cereal, Pam cooking spray, spray butter, granny smith apples, Weight Watchers sundaes, Kraft Light Zesty Italian Dressing, a scale and a computer. Chris has to have air popped popcorn with butter flavored Pam, radishes, celery, Egg Beaters, Morningstar sausage and Weight Watchers bread.
Losing weight is hard but we don't have to make it miserable for ourselves. We must find things that make it easier to stay on track. I am still in the "baby steps" stage where I need to find substitutes for some of my favorite things - ice cream, butter, cheese. This way, I don't feel deprived.
There are times when we are going to be hungry, when we are going to depressed, when we are going to have a hard time. But we are changing our lives! There is something better on the other side!
So, what's in your toolbox? What keeps you looking to the other side?

"Toolbox"...hmmmmm that's better than saying "diet food"! I certainly have my toolbox...spray butter, fresh fruits and veggies, 100 calorie snacks, crystal light, and lite salt.
I was thinking of family gatherings in general. Why do we feel that food is the most important element for a successful party? Maybe we need to substitute food for more good quality conversation. We already know that love is there, so why not use our mouths for something other than stuffing food into it? Just a thought that's easier said than done, but I'm certainly going to give it a try! Although sometimes I put my foot in my mouth when I open it too much....ha ha!
