One Step Forward...

...two pounds back.

Ick. What an awful diet week last week was. There were some small triumphs but also many, MANY opportunities to improve.

On the plus side, I used the treadmill five times last week and was the only one in the house to do so! I landed 6 stickers! And...oh....that's about it for the pluses.

Last Monday morning, I was down 4 pounds. Tuesday morning, I stepped on the scale and was back up four pounds. I fought that early week gain all week. The two pieces of garlic bread, Sunday night Chinese food, midnight snack Chinese food, and skinny cow breakfast did not help. I ended the week up 2 pounds.

But I know what I did and what I need to change for this week. I am going to journal my food which, incidently, I have not done once in 2009. I am going to eat real meals - not ice cream sandwiches. I am going to continue using the treadmill everyday. However, I did not start the week on the right foot.

On Saturday, I had really wanted Chris to take me out for dinner - I didn't care if we went to Applebees, I just wanted some alone time with my baby. But I went to a concert/art show and when I got back, he had already eaten. Feeling guilty about this, Chris called me on his way home last night and suggested we go out then. When we pulled into the Vienna in Southbridge, I knew it would not be a good diet night.

We split a bottle of wine and a braised rabbit appetizer. I had a salad, the duckling (yum! My mouth is watering just thinking about it), an after dinner glass of wine, and the German Choclate Cake. I should be hanging my head in shame but it was just so darn delicious. There were a few interesting things that I noticed about our dining out experience though. 1) I savored the taste of EVERYTHING. I ate it slowly and thoroughly enjoyed it. 2) When I was full, I stopped eating and left food on my plate. I can't remember the last time I went out to eat and didn't finish what I was served. These are very small victories but, something to feel good about nonetheless.

I really need to step it over the rest of the week because I would like to hit my 100 pound goal for the 2/2 weigh-in. And even though it is a hefty sized goal, I would like to hit my "under 300" goal by the end of Round One.

Katie, Katie..did I not tell you about the Evils of teh Vienna and the chocolate cake? I love the V too especially the duck which is my favorite and I am sure it will be on the menu Valentines day...of course you are both still invited to join us..just get back on the bus or really force youself to do some interval training. Walk for 10 min the run for 5 and keep switching off. Calories keep being burned for 3 days if you do intervals.
