Week Nine Results

In another exciting week, Chris and Katie expanded their overwhelming lead on Mom and Dad. Now Dad, I am calling you out, GRINDERS ARE NOT DIET FOOD! The key is low calorie, low fat, low carbs and low on the Glycemic index. All calories are not made the same. Bread is bad. Repeat that to yourself, BREAD IS BAD. Subway has great salads, just go light on the oil and extra extra vinegar. You can even have a double meat BMT salad and it is less than 300 calories. Anyway, Katie and Chris are down 7.8 lbs for the week or 1.18% and Mom and Dad are down 3 or .71%. Overall, the core participants are down 125 lbs, and we are now over a combined total of 10% down. Chris and Katie have a good shot of being down over 100 lbs by next week, we will see how it turns out!
Halloween is not an excuse. Angela, Aunt Ann and Jessica, I am CALLING YOU OUT! For inspiration, click here. (I have no idea why it is inspiring, bottom line is don't wait for somebody else to come rescue you, you are the one you have been waiting for.) This is going to be so hard for the next 4 months, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years. There are no off days! Every day is a battle.

Ok, off my soapbox now. Some of the honorary participants are simply cranking. Tom and Tracy lost SEVEN POUNDS THIS WEEK! They are now very close to matching Yvette's percentage. Angie is still way ahead overall. Lastly, Michael and Lisa have decided to join us. With only four months left they have a lot of catching up to do. (Although, I will not be at my goal in March, so we may have to do another six months for the initiated.) Michael and Lisa, please participant in the comments sections on the posts and welcome to the game. Good luck.

Overall, the Martin Weight Loss Challenge participants have lost a combined total of 193 lbs or 7.35%. We are 7 lbs away from a combined loss of 200 lbs! This is amazing progress in only 9 weeks. Now is the time to increase our efforts. Stand up! Walk around. Get off the couch. It is crunch time. Eliminate Bread. BREAD IS EVIL! Cookies are bad. Ice-cream is off limits. Chocolate is a sin! Avoid those foods at all costs. Pasta is made for moderation. An 8 ounce steak should be plenty, better yet, make it 6. Roast Chicken is delicious - just salt and pepper and bake, TOSS THE SKIN! Keep the rice to a minimum and BAKED not Mashed Potatoes. (that looks like a weird word to me, don't you hate it when that happens?)
Bart!!! I AM CALLING YOU OUT! That's it! You are a fat dog. You need to lose weight. Will you get yourself under control?

Way to go Tom and Tracy! You put the rest of the honorary participants to shame this week! Keep up the good work! As for the rest of us....we're all going to work hard this week so we'll have much better numbers next Monday, right? Rah rah rah....go team go!!!!!

Welcome Mike and Lisa! Hope you have a great first week!

And Congrats to Chris, Katie, Lula and John too!! The pounds are just melting away! Which brings me to the question....Where does the fat go? I don't want to sound stupid, but I don't sweat much, so it's not thru sweat. And I don't go to the bathroom any more than before?!?!? Does it just evaporate?!?!? Can anyone explain how we "lose" fat?

That has been my question forever!! Where does the fat go? Do the fat cells shrink and expand or do they disappear. And how do they escape our bodies if they don't do what I mentioned above. Come on Chris you have been our resource of knowledge forever.

To sum up:

Your body need glucose to work. The "fat" gets converted into glucose by your body and each individual fat cell (you only have so many) squeeze out fat. The fat turned to glucose gets used to generate heart beats, motion, breathing, brain activity, etc. Just like gas in a car.

When you eat too much, food is broken down into its component parts and then stored as fat. When you diet, the fat is then used up for energy. So, as gross as it sound, you are literally digesting yourself when you diet. That's right kids, you are eating your own flesh. Now, you may not be frying it up and serving it with some fava-beans, but in effect, it is the same thing. Yum, yum, who wants chicken skin?

Lisa and I are happy to be here with all of you "fat" fighters. Lisa and I are excited to see what we can do, hopefully we can catch up to all of you. Chasing around three kids gives us a small advantage.
BTW - Chris is incorrect about bread. Chocolate is not bad either. Moderation is the key. A good diet is based on quality of what you eat and how much you exercise. Foods are not bad, it is how much we eat of them that make them bad for us.

Is everyone depressed about the election? I think I'm going to eat an entire chocolate cake... :o(

Sorry Jess...I'm very happy about the election, but I'm not going to celebrate with cake. I just did a nice victory dance.
