Anyways...a few weeks ago, Angie said in the comments that she was thinking about how we should all do Christmas already. Chris and I tossed around a few ideas but I had an epiphany last night while I was trying to fall asleep!
We talked about making sure that there are lower calorie options instead of the high calorie staples - baked potatoes vs. mashed potatoes, light italian dressing vs. sour cream dip for veggies, turkey vs. roast beef, pretzels vs. chips. I also bought a great Weight Watchers cookbook with yummy dessert and appetizer recipes. But that's not the most important part...what we have to do is make little cards with a serving size and calories in front of each item we put out. For example, 1 oz or 10 chips for 150 calories, 1 cup of sour cream dip for 537 calories, or 1 oz prime rib for 113 calories. This way it will make us all think before putting something in our mouths and if we must have those "bad-for-us" snacks we know how many calories we're eating.
Please! Let me know what y'all think of this idea. We can get together and exchange recipes and meal ideas closer to the dates...

Sounds Great Katie! Well as you know or will see I had the gain this week. This is what happens to me when planned meals get thrown out the window, eating suppers at 10:30 at night and eating out and whatever else happens during tech week at Gateway Theater. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is a success. We have one more weekend. Mike had a telephone interview last night and the critic from T&G personally congratulated him after the first show. He won't get on the scale. Chief Bromden doesn't want to face the big white scale. The only saving grace is that I kept my promise to myself and there was no liquor for me. I would of hate to think what that scale would of said to me this morning if I drank with the others. Now all I have to do is get through this week and the cast party that we are hosting Saturday. I guess what I am getting at is that if I don't want to gain 2 pounds at each holiday event coming up I better get MY ACT together.
It's REALLY hard when you get thrown off your schedule, going out to eat, etc. I'm so proud of you for not drinking though - we don't need those empty calories! But I think weeks like that and holidays are where our true strength lies. If we come out of it, even if we've gained a little, and can say, "I did good this week" then we can be proud of ourselves. And it sounds like you can - you made some difficult choices and should be pleased none the less. That weight will come off next week - spend some extra time in the garden or go for an extra walk ;-)
Congrats to Mike on what sounds like a great performance - wish we were there to see it!!
That's an excellent idea Katie! I've been thinking of the holidays with all the office parties and all the goodies that our vendors send! If I'm armed with the number of calories in all that junk food, it'll make me think twice before "grazing" all day, as I did in the past.
I also have a Richard Simmons cookbook, so I'll look thu that for some good holiday low cal recipes.
